It's that time of year, long car rides to vacation or camping destinations and the battle of the car stereo begins anew. What to listen to? After we've listened to the audio books, the Grammar songs, I've been booed for turning on talk radio, and almost fell asleep at the wheel listening to Mozart- I reach for the cheesy kids music, because that's what they love. If you have no cheesy kids CDs, I envy you. My kids love this silly stuff and so does my husband.
I found this new band, Dream Jam, in my email inbox and gave them a listen. Although obviously kiddy music, it's fun and upbeat with catchy and clean lyrics. A sure fire way to stop the moans of "He's touching me!" and "Are we there yet?"...or at least a momentary distraction.
Dream Jam Band 'Leave It In The Soup' With Smart, Engaging Kids Album
Math problem: When you add four music teachers and four entertainers, how many members of the Dream Jam Band do you have? The answer is 4, because Francine, Barry G, Maestro C, and Erin the Red are all music teachers AND entertainers who infuse the invigorating kid and family-friendly songs on 'Leave It In The Soup,' out July 13th (Dream Jam Productions), with a spirit of wonder and curiosity.
The Dream Jam Band's positive lyrics and bouncy rhythms encompass a broad range of influences, from The Beatles to Mozart, Duke Ellington to Woody Guthrie, and bring all members of the family to the party. All songs on ' Leave It In The Soup' are written by the band, played on 20 different musical instruments and produced by award-winning songwriter and producer Rick Chertoff (Cyndi Lauper, Joan Osborne, Ron Howard’s The Grinch). They span the spectrum of rock, pop, blues, hip hop, sing-a-longs and classical, reflecting the band's belief that young children can synthesize musical ideas in a way that enhances learning.

Known for their musicality, theatricality and inventive stage costumes, the Dream Jam Band will premiere a new stage show at the International Children’s Festival at Cleveland's Ohio State Theater on May 7th and 8th. They will travel to the House of Kids at Irving Plaza in New York City on May 15th, and will continue to tour through the summer and fall.
The Dream Jam Band's self-titled first album, released in 2008, featured 11 original songs, two of which, “Nicky Nicky Knock Knock” and “Look Around,” reached Number One at SiriusXM satellite radio. The album was named to NPR's Top Ten Children’s and Family Albums List, won four Children’s Web Awards and received extensive airplay on kids’ programming across the USA.
