Duck, Duck,....CHICKEN!

We decided to give chicken raising another shot. We went down to Matthew's again and picked up some new chicks and a pair of ducks. One of our chickens was a freebie, since she is crippled, her little leg is deformed. She hops around just fine though and is able to drink and eat, so I think she will be fine. We have no names for them, we thought we would wait till they get older and get personalities. The ducks are my favorite, they were purely bought for fun, we will not be eating them. They are so cute!!

We went into Boise on Monday to pick Levi up at his lot near the Outlet Mall. We stopped at Pizza Hut for Famiy Home Evening and played some games while we ate. It was a nice break.

In the Moment

I stop and I look about me. I'm trying to take it all in, this moment, this time in my life. I know tomorrow I will wake up and it will all be different. They will be changed, these children of mine, like bits of my own heart running about.

Right now Oliver is 4 and today he had an old camera bag. He began collecting objects from all over the house. He carried the bag with him all day like a protected treasure. After they had gone to bed I found it laying on the floor, full to the brim with odds and ends. I did not have the heart to empty his days work.

Kaleb, a sweet 5 and fleeting. He gives life everything and hold nothing back of himself. He is always so generous and honest in his feelings and his ways. May he forever stay so enthusiastic and undiminished by the world. A light in the dark.

My vulnerable Ian, a young 8. So sensitive and delicate, always expecting the best in everyone. I know he struggles to swim in a world that is so overwhelming at times. He survives through his creativity and faith. He is so quick to love and so gentle, yet he has strength even he doesn't know he possesses.

My sturdy Josef, living in his black and white world. He is in such a hurry to grow up and be apart of the wide world,so full of the grey. I love those small moments when he finds such joy in childhood, my heart yells out to him to stay just a bit longer here.

Tomorrow these things will change and they will grow up and up.I will just take in the moments, as my own small treasures, to hide away in a special place in my heart.

Book Review: Don't Die My Love

Don't Die, My Love by Lurlene McDaniel

rating: 4 of 5 stars
Wow! I just loved this book. A sweet innocent and CLEAN romance between to young people.(think the Notebook, but G rated) You will not read without shedding some tears. The only negative thing would be the way the main characters relationship with and the way she speaks to her mother- But that is the only disagreeable part in the whole book. I loved the strength these young people showed in the book, especially Luke. I enjoyed that the author was very REAL with the book. Very sweet, emotional, and healing.

The Chickens of Oz

A few weeks ago we had some awfully high wind storms here in Weiser. My dear sweet chickens had routinely been harassed by our witchy black cat Onyx from the other side of their chicken wire cage. So I imagine some supernatural forces were at play in this incident. The wind picked up over night and blew their gate open. My very curious chickens made the fatal mistake of coming out of their warm, lighted coop. They were immediately blown out of their fenced in area and out into the cruel, cruel world. If by some miracle they have survived and you see them, walking along the yellow-brink road. Tell them to remember their ruby slipper and just click them together and cluck, " There is no place like home, there is no place like home."

Why Men are like computers

Have you ever been using your computer programs and all of a sudden one of them shows as "Not Responding" and is frozen. Perhaps you have overloaded the computer, asking it to do to many things at once. Sometimes the computer will just seize up and stop-just because.
How alike are the computer and the men in our lives! My husband watching a ball game and playing a game on his lap top suddenly goes into "Not Responding" mode when asked to get the baby a glass of milk. Or perhaps he is doing nothing much, just driving and you call him on his phone to have a conversation. You begin chattering away but soon you realize he is "Not Responding". This phenomena often occurs during serious decision making sessions, were you are asking for their incite or opinion. You begin by explaining your point of view, the problem at hand and then end with "So what do you think?" To which the husband will flash you a blank look, which you know means "Not Responding".
I am asking other wives if they know where the control, alt, and delete buttons are on husbands so I can unfreeze mine.

The Bucket List

Levi and I were chatting today, about movies we've seen and things. I said, "We should write a Bucket List!"
"Oh, Like in the movie." he says.
"Ya!" I say "What would be on your list of things you want to do before you die?"
Levi looks thoughtful for a moment and I am expecting an epiphany and then he says "Well... I've already done everything I've wanted to do...I got married and had kids and stuff."
"No," I complain. "...not everyday life stuff, like something you've always wanted to do but haven't yet."
"Oh," he thinks for a moment,"well I'd put Go to the IMAX on my list"
" The IMAX?" I ask
"Ya, with the huge screen and the awesome sound effects and stuff, I've always wanted to see a movie there."
"That's not a bucket-list thing..." I try to explain
"Hey, it's like $15 a person to see those, it is a once in a lifetime experience for me, how many times in our life are you going to let me spend $15 just to see a movie?" he retorts.
"OK," I laugh aloud and say "I can see it doesn't take much to make your life complete, a wife, some kids, and a trip to see a movie at the IMAX."

My most favorite thing to do is visit local city or county museums. In the middle of the week, they are usually completely empty. These types of museums cost very little or are free. And you get the energetic and knowledgeable museum attendant all to yourselves for a personalized tour.

Although this type of personalized attention during your visit is not guaranteed you, you can pretty much count on it. Most city or county museum attendants are senior citizens with a passion for history and they love to share their tales of life "in the old days". This enthusiastic hosts really help history come alive for our family. We have even been able to touch things that may have otherwise been hands-off in displays because of these personalized tours. They are like living history books, and the museum is a giant visual aid of their past.
